Retail Smartphone Revenue Increased 52% YOY

We've already talked mobile marketshare in some of our earlier posts, but how are retailers doing compared to last year?

To answer this year-over-year (YOY) growth question, we looked at a sample size of 74 brands running on our platform, all of which were tracked for both Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday periods in 2013 and 2014.

The results:

  • Smartphone visits increased 40% 
  • Smartphone orders increased 55% 
  • Smartphone revenue increased 52% 
  • Tablet visits increased 21% 
  • Tablet orders increased 46% 
  • Tablet revenue increased 49%

Ohio, Indiana, and West Virginia Top the Charts for Cyber Monday Mobile Shopping




Consumers in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Louisiana, and South Dakota know a good deal when they see one. Retail’s largest mobile commerce platform, Branding Brand, today released the results of its Mobile Commerce Index for Cyber Monday 2014, ranking these five locations as the highest-converting states for mobile shopping.

According to sales performance data from a sample of 35 North American retailers running on Branding Brand’s platform, mobile devices (smartphone and tablets combined) produced a total of 2,280,988 visits, 80,707 orders, and $7,407,412 in revenue on Cyber Monday. In addition, mobile devices generated:*

  • 47% of all online visits (63% iOS; 35% Android; 2% Other**)
    • 33% smartphones
    • 14% tablets
  • 32% of all online orders (66% iOS; 32% Android; 2% Other)
    • 18% smartphones
    • 14% tablets
  • 29% of all online revenue (75% iOS; 24% Android; 1% Other)
    • 14% smartphones
    • 15% tablets

*The above numbers do not include data from Branding Brand apps.
**Other includes Windows, BlackBerry, and other operating systems.

Compared to 2013, Branding Brand’s Mobile Commerce Index showed the following year-over-year increases for the same 35 retailers:

  • Mobile market share of all online visits increased 24%
  • Mobile market share of all online orders increased 55%
  • Mobile market share of all online revenue increased 71%

Mobile shopping visits peaked at 9 p.m. EST, while mobile revenue surged at 10 p.m. EST. Additional reports on the Holiday 2014 retail period are available at blog.brandingbrand.com.

November Mobile Commerce Index Is Live

Retail orders from smartphones increased 77 percent over last year, according to Branding Brand's Mobile Commerce Index report for November 2014. Additionally, 52 percent of all online visits were mobile. For the complete report, click the chart below.
